Lynden Christian’s volleyball team cruised through pool play at the Yakima Sundome Tournament, on its way to a third-place finish on Saturday, Sept. 13.
The Lyncs topped Davis, Grandview and Oak Harbor handily in pool play, leading to a matchup with Sehome in bracket play. The Lyncs prevailed 25-16, 19-25, 15-10 to advance to the semifinals. The Lyncs couldn’t get by 4A powerhouse and eventual tournament champion Central Valley in the semis, falling 20-25, 25-23, 15-7.
“I was really proud of the girls,” LC coach Kim Grycel said in a phone interview. “They just battled in the last game. ... That’s the best team we’ve played in years.”
Saturday’s stat leaders included Kara Bajema (55 kills, 28 digs), Emily Veening (10 aces, 36 digs), Madison Weg (30 kills, 56 assists, 27 digs, seven aces) and Morgan Van Kooten (14 blocks, 12 kills, 11 digs, six aces).
