Jared Rapp and Will Johnson found a nice way to start of their varsity boys’ tennis careers, teaming up to get a 6-0, 6-0 No. 3 doubles victory and helping Squalicum sweep visiting Anacortes 7-0 in its season opener on Friday, Sept. 12.
“It was their first varsity outing, and I thought they played really well,” Storm coach Joe O’Brien said in a phone interview.
Rapp and Johnson certainly weren’t alone in playing well, as Squalicum did not drop a set Friday. O’Brien said he was also impressed with Neal Crawford’s 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles.
“We had a number of good solid wins up and down the lineup,” O’Brien said. “I felt real good about the way the guys played.”
