Bellingham’s volleyball team used a balanced game to top Nooksack Valley 25-19, 25-21, 25-18 Thursday, Sept. 11, at Nooksack.
Olivia Bjorklund led the Red Raiders with 11 kills, Fiona Donovan added 16 assists, and Sophia Lawerence had 18 digs.
“We’ve been working on pushing through to the finish, and they maintained their composure tonight,” Bellingham coach Kim Bjorklund said in a phone interview. “They’re playing as a unit right now.”
Mariah Perry led the Pioneers with 19 digs, and Brianna Turner chipped in three aces. Nooksack Valley coach Katie Emmons said she thinks her team can continue improving its consistency, and hopes they look to Perry for an example of that.

“We have a lot to work on: consistency, finding shots that are open, and we need to work on communicating,” Emmons said in a phone interview. “Mariah is the glue between all the players — she does a good job communicating, she talks about where the hitters can go, she’s just a good leader.”
Bellingham and Nooksack Valley play next at the Lynden Tournament, which starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Lynden High School.
