Five volleyball players to watch in 2014

School: Ferndale

Year: Senior

Position: Setter

Outlook: Reid returns as the lone senior on the Golden Eagles’ young squad. Her experience in the middle will be paramount to setting up Whitney Walker and Taryn Potter on the outside.

School: Lynden Christian

Year: Junior

Position: Outside hitter

Outlook: Kim Grycel simply said of Bajema: “She’s one of the best outside hitters in the state.” At 6-foot-1, the junior has the power and jumping ability to wreak havoc on the NWC for another two years.

School: Sehome

Year: Senior

Position: Outside hitter

Outlook: Johnson played opposite of All-Whatcom County player of the year Taylor Lyall last year, but now she’s the top threat for the Mariners. With another year, she will look to again lead Sehome back to state.

School: Lynden

Year: Senior

Position: Setter

Outlook: Mark’s presence is more important now than ever with the injuries to Hannah Rothwell and Kat Webb. Mark has the experience of helping the Lions to state, and Lynden will need her to rally the troops.

School: Bellingham

Year: Senior

Position: Outside hitter

Outlook: Bellingham is looking to break through to the postseason, and Bjorklund’s firepower on the outside will provide the Red Raiders some much-needed pop. Her leadership can’t be overstated, either.
