Coach: Kristy White
Last year: 17-4 overall, 11-1 NWC (second place). ... Placed second at the Class 2A Northwest District Tournament to Burlington-Edison. ... Finished fourth in the Class 2A state tournament after winning its first two matches over Yakima East Valley and Tumwater before losing to Capital and Yakima West Valley.
Players to watch: Dani Johnson (Sr., OH); Megan Greer (Sr., S); Natalie Knops (Sr., L).
Outlook: Kristy White may have lost five seniors that helped the Mariners to three-consecutive state tournament appearances, but the cupboard isn’t entirely bare, either. “We’ve come in strong, and it really doesn’t feel as though we’ve missed a beat,” White said in a phone interview. “They are working hard. We just have to be ready to adjust.” Johnson returns as one of the elite outside hitters in the NWC, and Greer at setter has been a nice surprise thus far for White. The most impressive, though, has been Knops at libero. “She’s playing phenomenal. It’s hard to get the ball past her,” White said. Sehome lost quite a bit of height, so White said the team will play a bit more defensive, grinding out points more so than in years past.
