Sehome boys, girls ranked No. 1 in preseason cross country polls

The Sehome boys’ and girls’ cross country teams opened the season atop their respective preseason Class 2A state coaches’ polls, which were released late last week.

The Mariners open defense of the state titles on Wednesday, Sept. 10, with a league meet at Lake Padden Park before hosting the Sehome Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Civic Stadium.

The Bellingham girls checked in at No. 3 in the 2A poll behind Sehome and No. 2 Liberty-Issaquah. Anacortes was No. 9, and Sedro-Woolley was listed among the others receiving votes.

On the boys’ side, Sequim was No. 2, one spot ahead of Anacortes, while Squalicum was listed among the others receiving votes.

The Meridian boys were the highest-ranked 1A team at No. 5 behind top-ranked Medical Lake, while the Trojans girls’ team was sixth behind No. 1 Lakeside. Mount Baker was listed among others receiving votes.

The Gig Harbor boys and Bellarmine Prep girls were the top-ranked teams in 4A, while the North Central boys and Glacier Park girls were No. 1 in 3A.
