Lynden Christian's girls' track and field team was the tops among Whatcom County schools and only second to King's at the 1A Tri-District Tournament on Saturday, May 24, at Woolsey Stadium in Shoreline.
The Lyncs didn't just settle for qualifying five athletes and two relay teams (4x100 and 4x400) to state. Instead, the 4x400 relay team went for a school and stadium record by running in a time of 4 minute, 1.42 seconds . The team will go into state as one of the fastest and has a good shot at winning, Meridian coach Patrick Ames said in a phone interview.
Other Lyncs' qualifiers included Hannah Rusnak (100, 100 hurdles, long jump), Sarah Ball (3,200), Morgan Van Kooten (shot put) and Hannah Wynstra (javelin).
Meridian's team put up quite a performance in the relays also. The Trojans qualified two relay teams, beat stadium records in both of them and a school record in the 4x400.

Blaine was led by Olivia Adams' first-place finish in the shot put as the Borderites qualified Kieya Villars (300 hurdles), Elle Moore (shot put) and Taylor V'Dovec (high jump) to compete alongside Adams at state.
Mount Baker moved on three athletes in four events. Kelsie Nern qualified in both the 1,600 and 3,200.
Nooksack Valley will compete with Amy Jo Murphy (3,200) as the Pioneers only qualifier.
