The Lynden girls’ tennis team defeated Friday Harbor 4-1 on Friday, April 25, at the Lynden YMCA.
Abbi Steele, who attends Nooksack Valley but plays tennis for the Lions, played in the No. 1 singles position and won her match against Roxanne Bermann 8-4. It was an impressive win given she fell down three sets to start the match.
“I think she started off a little slow. Nerves or whatever,” Lynden coach Trey Ballard said in a phone interview. “She came storming back once she got into her groove, started moving the ball a lot better. Moved her around and didn’t hit the ball back to her consistently like she started out.”
Ballard was also impressed with the play of the doubles pairing of Katherine Haveman and Bridget Johnson, who are singles players that have never played doubles together. They won their match against Mai Ngo and Halley Loucks 8-2.
