Week 4 Prep Baseball Power Rankings



1. Anacortes (1):

The Seahawks remain No. 1 despite snapping a seven-game win streak with a loss to Ferndale. (7-2, 1-1 NWC) LG: L 4-0 Ferndale, W 14-3 LC, W 3-2 Sehome Upcoming: Blaine (4/14), at Lynden (4/16).

2. Squalicum (4): The Storm hasn’t lost since March 26 and has been a force in the early part of the season using an array of strong pitchers, sound defense and plenty of offensive production. (6-2-1, 1-0 NWC) LG: W 7-2 Lynden, T 1-1 Friday Harbor Upcoming: at Burlington-Edison (4/11), Sehome (4/14), Meridian (4/16).

3. Sedro-Woolley (5): The Cubs have won four straight, and despite having a relatively small sample size so far, they look the part of a postseason-contending club. (4-1, 2-0 NWC) LG: W 10-4 Nooksack Valley, W 3-0 Meridian Upcoming: Sehome (4/11), at Issaquah (4/12), Ferndale (4/14).

4. Bellingham (6): Back-to-back complete games by Charlie Carmichael and Bobby Cooke, paired with strong hitting, helped the Red Raiders outscore their opponents 15-0 last week. (5-5, 2-0 NWC) LG: W 4-0 Mount Baker, W 11-0 LC Upcoming: Lynden (4/11), Meridian (4/14), at Blaine (4/16).

5. Sehome (2): The Mariners followed a one-run loss to Anacortes with a more head-scratching one-run loss to Lynden Christian. Sehome has managed only four runs during their last three games. (5-5, 0-2 NWC) LG: L 3-2 Anacortes, L 2-1 LC Upcoming: at Sedro-Woolley (4/11), at Squalicum (4/14), at Ferndale (4/16).

6. Ferndale (7): Pitcher Kyle Baker helped snap the Golden Eagles’ four-game losing skid with a complete game against Anacortes. (4-5, 1-1 NWC) LG: L 6-5 Burlington-Edison, W 4-0 Anacortes Upcoming: at Mount Baker (4/11), at Sedro-Woolley (4/14), Sehome (4/16).

7: Lynden (8): The Lions have won three of its past four after starting the season in a 1-4 hole. Lynden got its bats working during both its wins. (4-5, 1-1 NWC) LG: L 7-2 Squalicum, W 12-6 River Ridge, W 6-4 Meridian Upcoming: at Bellingham (4/11), at Burlington-Edison (4/14), Anacortes (4/16).

8. Meridian (3): The Trojans are in the midst of a four-game losing streak and have averaged only 2.75 runs per game during that string. (4-4, 0-2 NWC) LG: L 4-3 Cascade, L 3-0 Sedro-Woolley, L 6-4 Lynden Upcoming: at Nooksack Valley (4/11), at Bellingham (4/14), at Squalicum (4/16).

9. Burlington-Edison (10): The Tigers finally seem to have overcome their hitting woes. Burlington-Edison scored 11 runs in its past two games, which is more than the Tigers have scored in their previous seven. (4-5, 2-0 NWC) LG: W 6-5 Ferndale, W 5-1 Blaine Upcoming: Squalicum (4/11), Lynden (4/14), at Lynden Christian (4/16).

10. Nooksack Valley (9): The Pioneers snapped their four-game win streak with a six-run loss to Sedro-Woolley. Still, Blaine has outscored opponents 34-24 so far this spring. (4-3, 1-1 NWC) LG: W 5-3 Blaine, L 10-4 Sedro-Woolley Upcoming: Meridian (4/11), LaConner (4/14), Mount Baker (4/16).

11. Lynden Christian (12): The Lyncs finally ended its long losing streak at seven games with a huge one-run win at home against Sehome thanks to a strong pitching performance from Jamie Heystek. (2-7, 1-1 NWC) LG: L 3-2 Castle Rock, L 11-0 Bellingham, L 14-3 Anacortes, W 2-1 Sehome Upcoming: at Blaine (4/11), at Mount Baker (4/14), Burlington-Edison (4/16).

12. Blaine (11): The Borderites’ bats went cold following their two high-scoring games against LaConner, suffering back-to-back losses. (4-6, 0-2 NWC) LG: L 5-3 Nooksack Valley, L 5-1 Burlington-Edison Upcoming: Lynden Christian (4/11), at Anacortes (4/14), Bellingham (4/16).

13. Mount Baker (13): The Mountaineers lost their only game last week and have been outscored this spring 54-20. (1-6, 0-1 NWC) LG: L 4-0 Bellingham Upcoming: Ferndale (4/11), Lynden Christian (4/14), at Nooksack Valley (4/16).Note: Parentheses indicated last week's ranking
