The Mount Baker boys’ basketball team used a full team effort to get past Sedro-Woolley 59-42 in Northwest Conference play at Mount Baker on Friday.
“It was 12 guys playing and almost all of them scored,” Mount Baker coach Rob Gray said in a phone interview. “They really battled and played well together.”
Gray said the team’s second-half rebounding was a key to the team’s win. Baker outrebounded the Cubs 34-23 in the game, with most of those coming in the second half. Derek Franks led the team with 11.
Offensively, Franks finished with 14 points for a double-double and Pete Valum scored 10, but Gray said his bench played a key role for team as well. Tyler Compton and Derek Johnson started the second half because players were in foul trouble and combined for seven of the team’s 17 points in the period.
