Mount Vernon built a big lead with a 26-7 second quarter and Bellingham couldn’t recover as the Bulldogs cruised to a 69-48 Northwest Conference boys’ basketball win at Mount Vernon on Wednesday.
“I was proud of the way we got started, but we stopped shooting very well in the middle of the second quarter and (Mount Vernon) shot very well,” Bellingham coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. “You can’t give up 26 points in a quarter and ever expect to win.”
The Red Raiders outscored the Bulldogs in the second half, but were unable to come close to getting themselves out of the 22-point hole they were in at halftime.
Devon Delaney led Bellingham with 15 points, Pete Carlson had 13 points and four assists and Freddie Payne had 11 points and six rebounds.
