PREP GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Players to watch

Five players to watch

COURTNEY VANBROCKLIN

School: Mount Baker

Year: Senior

Position: Guard

Height: 5-foot-8

VanBrocklin is probably the best pure athlete in the conference, averaging 18.5 points per game last season. When she’s making those runners in the lane she can be devastating. She’ll be playing at Boise State University next season, but for now she’ll be tearing up the NWC.

BRIANNE RYAN

School: Lynden Christian

Year: Senior

Position: Forward

Height: 5-foot-11

Ryan can play any position on the floor well and that versatility makes her one of the best players in the conference. She’s a very good scorer, averaging 19.3 points per game last year, but she’s also one of the NWC’s best defenders. She’s already signed to play at Eastern Washington University.

BRITTANY TODHUNTER

School: Sehome

Year: Senior

Position: Forward

Height: 6-foot-0

Todhunter’s abilities as both a rebounder and a scorer set her apart from the rest of the post players in the conference. She’s a threat to score 20 points and pull down 20 rebounds in every game. She nearly helped take the Mariners to a state title last year, scoring 14.3 points per game.

ASHLEY HONEYCUTT

School: Ferndale

Year: Junior

Position: Post

Height: 6-foot-0

Plain and simple, Honeycutt is a consistent finisher in the middle. She’ll get her points in the paint or at the free throw line and that’s rare night in and night out. Just a junior, she scored 16.1 points a game last year. If she can refine her outside shooting touch she’ll be tough to stop.

KENZIE DE BOER

School: Lynden Christian

Year: Junior

Position: Forward

Height: 5-foot-11

De Boer is excellent at creating her own shot and capable of taking control of a game. That said, she also understands the Lyncs’ system and seems to pick her spots. She can be a streaky scorer, running off 10 or 12 points at a time, and that’s scary for opponents. She averaged 16.3 points a game as a sophomore.
