Outlook: LaBree is in his first sea-son as the Mariners’ head coach, but he has plenty of experience with Whatcom County basketball, includ-ing the past three seasons as an assistant at Sehome. He takes over a program that is a little bit short in stature and experience. Sehome does not have a player taller than 6-foot-3 and few have much varsity experi-ence. One of the exceptions to that is Parker Omey, who was second on the team with 8.7 points per game last year. He will be joined on the wing by Dane Thorpe, who averaged 4.7 points in 11 games last year. Will Moore also started a number of games at point guard for Sehome last year. LaBree said the team has been focusing on improving its rebounding and defense, though he expects the team to be strongest from the pe-rimeter. If Sehome can improve, the Mariners should be able to qualify for a spot in the Class 2A Northwest District tournament.
