Lynden advances to volleyball semifinals

The Lynden volleyball team had to battle, but it managed to reach the semifinals of the Class 2A state tournament Thursday at Kennewick.

The Lions needed five games to beat Grandview in the quarterfinals 25-21, 25-18, 13-25, 16-25, 20-18.

Lynden will face Tumwater, which swept Pullman in its quarterfinal, at 3:30 p.m. Friday. The state championship final is scheduled for 8 p.m.

In the first round, Lynden swept Woodland 25-17, 25-19, 25-21.

Earlier in the day, Mount Baker lost its first-round match against Fife in four games, falling 25-19, 22-25, 26-24, 25-23.

The Mountaineers were eliminated from the tournament with a 25-22, 20-25, 17-25, 25-22, 15-10 loss to Spokane East Valley in the first round of the consolation bracket.
