PREP FOOTBALL: Thursday's game preview

BLAINE (3-1) AT SEHOME (1-3)

Time: 7 p.m.

Site: Civic Stadium

Borderites update: Blaine won its third straight game, beating Mount Vernon 31-21. The Borderites’ running back tandem of Ben Bohnson and Casey McCabe continues to eat up opposing defenses, rushing for a combined 152 yards against the Bulldogs.

Mariners update: Sehome’s defense showed up in its 14-7 loss to Squalicum on Friday. A week after allowing 49 points and 658 yards of total offense, the Mariners held the Storm to two touchdowns and 270 yards. Offensively, Sehome struggled to run the ball, totaling only 39 yards on 29 carries, but had success in the air. QB Scott Pelo completed 10 of 16 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown.

Key to the game: Sehome and Blaine are each 1-1 against Northwest Conference 2A foes, so this is an especially important contest. The Mariners’ need to stop Blaine’s running game to give themselves a chance.
