Western Washington University is 10th in the first NCAA Division II West Region rating released Wednesday, April 15.
The Vikings are 24-16 overall and tied for second in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings at 13-7.
Dixie State (38-6) leads the region, followed by Cal State Monterey Bay (37-9), Humboldt State (36-10), Sonoma State (31-14), Cal Baptist (36-9), Saint Martin’s (24-13), Chico State (20-16), Hawaii Hilo (28-16), Cal State East Bay (23-20) and the Vikings.
The eight-team regional field will be made up of the post-season tournament champions from the GNAC and California Collegiate Athletic Association, the regular-season Pacific West Conference champion along with the other five highest ranked teams in the final poll.
The NCAA II West Sub-Regional is scheduled for May 8-9 and the NCAA II West Super Regional for May 22-23. The winner advances to the NCAA II National Championships on May 28-June 1.
WWU has not gotten to regionals since the 2011 season. The Vikings also made appearances in 2003 and 2007.
Dixie State is the defending regional champion. Last year, the Red Storm advanced to the semifinals of the College World Series, losing to eventual champion West Texas A&M.
