Western Washington University scored just one run as it was swept 5-0 and 2-1 by Saint Martin’s University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference softball doubleheader on Friday, March 13, at the SMU Softball Field.
The Saints’ Lindsey Miller (4-2) pitched a complete-game, six-hit victory in the nightcap and Sam Munger (10-3) pitched the shutout in the opener for SMU as WWU failed to score a run for the first time this season, managing just four hits.
In the nightcap, Jordan Walley drove in WWU’s only run of the afternoon with a two-out single to right field to tie the game but in the bottom of the seventh, Jackie Schmaeling drove in the winning run with a two-out, walk-off single.
Benson had two of the Vikings’ six hits in the second game. In the opener, two of the Vikings’ hits were by Allie Crowe.

WWU pitcher Makinlee Sellevold (8-4) was the tough-luck loser in both games as she had a six-game winning streak snapped.
