Two Western Washington University athletes, men’s sprinter Alex Donigian and women’s distance runner Katelyn Steen, will compete at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 13-14 at Birmingham, Ala., at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Donigian will run in the 60 meters where he is tied for fourth nationally. Steen has the nation’s fifth best time in the 5,000 and the ninth fastest in the 3,000.
It is the second straight national indoor appearance for Donigian, who placed 14th last year. This season, he set school and Great Northwest Athletic Conference records in the 60 with an automatic qualifying time of 6.72. The standards he broke were both his own.
At outdoor nationals last spring, Donigian placed fifth (10.61) in the 100 to earn All-America recognition.
