Western Washington University’s Katelyn Steen set a school record and bettered her provisional national qualifying time in the 3,000 meters at the Last Qualifier meet on Saturday, Feb. 28, held at Dempsey Indoor on the campus of host University of Washington.
Steen’s winning time was 9:38.92, breaking the WWU record of 9:44.31 established in 2010 by Sarah Porter.
“That should get her to the national meet,” said WWU head coach Pee Wee Halsell of Steen’s performance.
The Vikings’ Gordie Kordas improved his PNQ mark in the men’s pole vault, clearing 15-8 1/4 to place fourth.
