WWU's Jeffrey Parker named GNAC Player of the Week

Western Washington University forward Jeffrey Parker has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 15-21.

It is the second weekly honor this season for Parker, a 6-foot-6 sophomore from Richmond, Calif. He helped the Vikings to road victories over nationally No. 15-ranked and regular-season GNAC champion Western Oregon, 73-50, snapping the Wolves’ 11-game winning streak, and Saint Martin’s, 90-79.

Parker scored 18 points against WOU and 24 versus Saint Martin’s, shooting 64.0 percent (16 of 25) from the field and 60.0 percent (9 of 15) from 3-point range in the two games.

The Vikings have won seven straight games following a 10-10 start. During that stretch, Parker has averaged 18.4 points on 55.5 percent (45 of 81) floor accuracy and 45.2 percent (19 of 42) from beyond the arc.

On the season, Parker is tied for team-high scoring honors at 15.6 points per game. He also is averaging 4.7 rebounds, and is hitting 45.3 percent (73 of 161) of his treys.

WWU, 17-10 overall and sixth in the GNAC standings at 10-7, completes its regular season Thursday, Feb. 26 (7 p.m.), at home against Simon Fraser.

The Vikings already have qualified for the GNAC Tournament held March 5-7, in Billings, Mont.
