Western Washington University sprinter Alex Donigian has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Track Athlete of the Week for Jan. 11-17.
Donigian, a junior from Mission Viejo, Calif., set school and conference records in both the 60 and 200 meters, placing fifth in both events, at the University of Washington Indoor Preview. He qualified automatically for the NCAA Division II Championships in the 60 with a time of 6.72 that ranks second nationally.
In the 200, his time of 21.67 erased the longest standing GNAC record of 21.77 by Mike Hinshaw of Western Oregon in 2002. Donigian’s time ranks seventh nationally.
Donigian was named the Outstanding Male Performer at last year’s GNAC Championships, winning the 60 and 200.
