Pitcher Shearyna Labasan, a senior at Maryknoll High School in Mililani, Hawaii, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball at Western Washington University, beginning fall quarter of 2015. Making that announcement on Monday, Dec. 28, was Viking coach Amy Suiter.
Labasan, whose fastball has been clocked at 63 miles per hour, was a first-team Honolulu Advertiser all-State, Scoringlive Hawaii Division I and Interscholastic League of Hawaii all-star as a junior. She posted a 14-5 record and had a 1.82 earned run average with 99 strikeouts in 77 innings pitched.
Labasan threw a no-hitter in a 6-0 win over Pearl City High in the opening round of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association State Division I Championships, striking out 14 in seven innings. She helped the Lady Spartans place fifth in the school’s first state appearance.
As a sophomore, Labasan was a first-team all-state and all-league pick. She had a 12-4 record and a 1.73 ERA, while hitting .527.
Labasan was second-team all-State and first-team all-league choice as a freshman.
