Jones named Daktronics All-American for second year

Western Washington University defender Brianna Jones was a third-team selection on the Daktronics, Inc., NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer All-America Team announced Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Jones, a senior from Bonney Lake, was a second-team pick in 2013.

Jones led a WWU defense that had a 0.32 goals against average, allowing just seven goals, and posted 14 shutouts. She also scored three goals and assisted on two others.

WWU finished 16-1-4, suffering its only loss, 1-0 to eventual West Region champion Cal State Stanislaus, in the second round of the NCAA II Tournament.

The Vikings, who were the top seed at the West Regional, won the GNAC regular-season championship and reached the title game of the conference post-season tourney.

Jones was a three-time Daktronics West Region all-star, being first-team in 2013 and 2014 and second-team in 2012. She was the second-leading vote-getter for 2014 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors after being the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2013.
