WWU No. 21 in USA Today Sports Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll

Western Washington University is ranked No. 21 in the USA Today Sports Preseason Top 25 Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll released Tuesday, Nov. 4.

The Vikings return four starters from last year's team which finished 19-10, won the GNAC Post-Season Tournament and reached the first round of the West Regional. It was their 15th regional appearance in 16 seasons as a NCAA II member.

WWU head coach Carmen Dolfo enters her 24th season with a 494-183 record and a 73.0 winning percentage. She needs six more victories to become the first four-year college coach in the state of Washington and the Pacific Northwest (Idaho, Oregon and Washington) to reach 500 at one university in those states.

The Vikings won both of their preseason exhibitions, 83-58 over Fraser Valley and 68-62 at University of British Columbia. They open their regular season on Nov. 14-15 at a West Region Crossover Tournament hosted by Seattle Pacific, playing Humboldt State the first day and Fresno Pacific the second. Both games have 1 p.m. tipoffs at Royal Brougham Pavilion.
