No. 14 WWU women’s soccer wins 3-0 at Simon Fraser

Nationally ranked Western Washington University completed its regular season unbeaten with a 3-0 triumph over Simon Fraser University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer contest on Saturday, Nov.1, in Burnaby, B.C.

The Vikings, No. 14 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll and No.1 in the West Region rating, improved to 15-0-3 overall and captured the GNAC regular-season title for the third straight year with an 11-0-3 record.

Stephanie Hamilton gave WWU a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute, scoring her second goal of the season on a free kick.

Erin Russell scored in the 36th minute to make it 2-0 at halftime. The goal was Russell’s first of the year and Kim Cooper was credited with her third assist.

The Vikings scored for the third time, tying their high for the season, in the 79th minute as Elise Aylward put a shot inside the far post on a crossfrom Colleen Lindsay.

Starting goalkeeper Ashley Haden had six saves and back-up Miranda Head added two as WWU recorded its 14th shutout of the season.
