Western Washington University’s Katelyn Steen has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Women’s Athlete of the Week for Oct. 5-11.
Steen, a senior from Sammamish where she graduated from Eastlake High School, finished third in back of two Trinity Western runners at the 41st Annual WWU Classic, completing the six-kilometer distance in a personal-best course time of 21:20. That was 40 seconds better than her previous best effort on the Lake Padden Park course.
It was the second GNAC weekly honor of the fall for Steen, who has had top 10 performances in each of her three races this season. She won the Saint Martin’s Invitational and placed eighth at the UW Sundodger Invitational.
Last year, Steen earned All-America honors by placing 34th at the NCAA Division II National Cross Country Championships.
