Western Washington University’s Audrey Orem shot the best round of her two-year collegiate career and is tied for second in medalist play, just one stroke behind the leader, after Monday’s first round of the Dixie State University Women’s Golf Invitational being held on the Blackrock Pointe in St. George, Utah.
Orem fired a 1-under par 72, six strokes better than her previous best. She is one stroke back of Dixie State’s Brittney Bisgrove.
WWU shot 309 and is fourth in the team standings, just four shots behind leader Point Loma (305). Dixie State and Academy of Art are tied for second at 308.
Two Vikings, Kristen Hansen and Jenn Paul, each shot 78 and are in a six-way tie for 10th.
Orem had six birdies and three bogeys. She double-bogeying the 15th, but responded with pars on her last three holes.
