Midfielder Jeremy Wentzel scored two goals in just over three minutes during the first half as Western Washington University snapped a three-game losing string by defeating Saint Martin’s University, 3-1, on Saturday, Oct. 4, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer contest at the SMU campus field.
In the sixth minute, midfielder Dan Anderson scored his first goal of the season for the Vikings, who improved to 3-5-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the GNAC. They had scored just one goal in the last three games and five overall coming into the contest.
Wentzel scored on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute and in the 36th minute tallied his third goal of the season, finding the right lower corner, with Kurtis Pederson and Luke Olney earning assists.
SMU fell to 2-7-0 overall and 2-3-0 in conference action. The Saints scored in the 81st minute, Tim Teipei finding the net for the first time this season after taking a throw-in from Matt Beaulaurier.

WWU is on the road for two GNAC games next week, traveling to University of Mary on Thursday, Oct. 9 (7 p.m.) and to South Dakota Mines on Saturday, Oct. 11 (7 p.m.).
