Freshman Emily Webster scored her first collegiate goal in the 107th minute as nationally ranked Western Washington University opened a three-game home stand by edging Saint Martin’s University, 2-1 in overtime, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer contest on Thursday, Sept. 25, at Robert S. Harrington Field.
WWU, rated No. 15 in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll, improved to 6-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in GNAC play. The victory was the 23rd straight at home for the Vikings, two shy of the school record set from 1981 to 1986.
SMU, which got 11 saves from goalkeeper Sunny De Boer, fell to 0-5-2 overall and 0-2-1 in conference action.
The deciding goal came off a cross from Katherine Miccile. Webster’s header was blocked by a Saints’ defender, but the ball landed at her feet and she knocked it in from six yards.
