Katelynn Zanders had a match-high 25 kills as University of Alaska Anchorage rallied from a two-set deficit to upset nationally ranked Western Washington University, 17-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-7, on Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball opener for both teams at Sam Carver Gymnasium.
The Vikings, rated No.10 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll, fell to 7-3. Middle blocker Kayla Erickson led a balanced attack with 13 kills.
Rachel Roeder had 11 kills for WWU, Jennica McPherson 10 and Kelsey Moore eight. Libero Samantha Hutchinson, the national leader in digs, had a match-high 42.
The Vikings’ Joellee Buckner and UAA’s Caitlin McInerney each had seven blocks.
