Western Washington University libero Samantha Hutchinson is the NCAA Division II leader in digs with 246 and digs per set, averaging 6.83, in the first national statistics report released Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Hutchinson, a senior from University Place, ranks second among WWU career leaders with 1,917 digs. She needs 83 more to become just the second Viking to reach 2,000. Hutchinson trails only Courtney Schneider, who had 2,695 from 2004 to 2007.
Last year as a junior, Hutchinson was a first-team American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American and Great Northwest Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season. She ranked second nationally in digs, averaging 6.91.
As a sophomore. Hutchinson ranked No. 5 nationally with a 6.41 average after being No.15 as a freshman at 5.78.

Last week at the GNAC/Pacific West Conference Crossover tournament, Hutchinson had 115 digs, an average of 7.2 per set. She totaled 41 against Point Loma, four shy of her career high.
