Forward Tye Hastings scored the lone goal and Keegan Rogers made five saves to earn the shutout as Western Washington University defeated Notre Dame de Namur University, 1-0, on Monday night in a non-conference men’s soccer contest at Harrington Field on the WWU campus.
The Vikings improved to 2-2-0 overall while playing the second of five consecutive home contests. They lost the opener 2-1 in overtime to Cal State East Bay.
NDNU fell to 1-3-0 despite having a 14-8 advantage in shot attempts.
Hastings scored the game-winner in the 73rd minute. Gabriele Zaccagnini appeared trapped deep in the right corner, but found room to drive a cross into the penalty area, and Hastings converted it with a right-footed volley from seven yards out.
