Luigi Castillo scored a pair of goals, lifting Cal State East Bay to a 2-1 overtime victory over Western Washington University on Saturday night in a non-conference men’s soccer contest at Harrington Field on the WWU campus.
It was the home opener for the Vikings, who fell to 1-2-0. Jeremy Wentzel scored WWU’s goal on a penalty kick.
CSUEB improved to 1-1-1.
Castillo’s game-winner came in the 108th minute. Arnol Arceta launched a free kick from just behind the center line into the WWU penalty area. Michael Tieku won a header that flew to Castillo at the top of the box, and Castillo’s 18-yard volley swerved right and rocketed under the bar for his second goal of the night.

The Vikings were outshot 15-9 overall by the Pioneers, but had the better chances for much of extra time. Tye Hastings headed wide in the 91st minute, and Luke Olney had a shot from the top of the penalty area roll inches wide of the right post in the 104th minute.
Castillo opened the scoring in the 41st minute just seconds after entering the match, sliding at the far post to finish a cross from the right by Kellen Crow.
Wentzel got the equalizer four minutes into the second half after Olney was fouled in the penalty area.
The Vikings continue their five-game home stand, playing host to Notre Dame de Namur on Monday, Sept. 15.
