Head coach Diane Flick earned the 300th victory of her 15-season coaching career as nationally ranked Western Washington University defeated Hawaii Pacific University, 25-19, 14-25, 25-22, 25-20, in the Vikings’ home opener Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Squalicum High School.
Outside hitter Kelsey Moore led the Vikings with 16 kills, 10 of them in the final two sets.
Flick’s 300 victories and 79.2 winning percentage are the best in program history. She entered the season averaging slightly better than 21 victories a year.
A 5-1 run early in the fourth set helped WWU to a 6-3 lead, and from there, the Vikings maintained a narrow advantage that was never more than five, but never less than two. Middle blocker Kayla Erickson who finished the match with 12 kills and three blocks, had five kills in the final set.
