Former Bellingham Slam and Western Washington University guard Rico Wilkins signed a contract to play in Denmark this winter.
Wilkins signed with the Vaerlose Basketball Club, a team which competes in Denmark’s top basketball league.
The 5-foot-11 former WWU guard is coming off a season with the Slam in 2014, in which he averaged 14.1 points per game. Playing in all 18 games but starting just one, Wilkins was frequently one of Bellingham’s first options off of the bench and picked up the USBasket.com Sixth Man of Year award for the International Basketball League. Scoring in double figures 13 times, Wilkins finished the 2014 championship season strong, scoring at least 24 points in three of his last four games.
Wilkins’ season in Denmark will be his second opportunity to compete overseas. He returned to Bellingham last spring for the 2014 IBL season after a stint with a team in Casablanca, Morocco.
