Western Washington University midfielder Tye Hastings has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for Aug. 31-Sept. 6.
Hastings, a senior from Mill Creek (graduate of Jackson High School), scored the game’s only goal as the Vikings upset nationally No. 9 ranked UC San Diego, 1-0, last Saturday.
Hastings’ left-footed goal from 30 yards out came in the sixth minute. He gathered the ball toward the left side of the field, dribbled to the middle and pivoted to his left foot before unleashing a shot that found its way in.
The goal was the fourth game winner of Hasting’s four-year career.
