Grattic leads WCC women over Bellevue College

Kortney Grattic had 31 points, including two 3-pointers, and 11 rebounds to lead the Whatcom Community College women’s basketball team to an 80-73 victory over Bellevue College on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Meridian High School.

“It’s absolutley a huge win for us,” WCC coach Sara Bergner said in a phone interview. “Not only was it sophomore night, but we battled tonight for the win. We talked about fighting and clawing for that last (playoff) spot.”

Kayla Tiemersma added 22 points and nine rebounds for Whatcom, Mikayla Brown had 10 points and six rebounds and Nikki Gilbert had six points and six assists.

Hunter Hopkins had 26 points, including six 3-pointers, for Bellevue, Shelby Kassuba added 13 points and 14 rebounds and Mikayla Jones had 18 points and six assists.

The Orcas finish the regular season with a 2 p.m. league game at Olympic College on Saturday, Feb. 28.
