WWU FOOTBALL TIMELINE

1903 - WWU, then the known as the Bellingham State Normal School, wins first game 12-0 over Everett High School

1907 - WWU wins first game against a collegiate opponent, 24-0, over the University of Puget Sound

1938 - WWU finishes its first and only perfect season with win over Eastern Washington

1951 - Vikings put together 8-1 record behind All-American fullback Norm Hash

1976 - Western wins NAIA District 1 championship with 48-28 win over Pacific Lutheran University

1992 - WWU makes its first NAIA playoff appearance, 26-0 to Linfield College

1994 - Western avenges loss to Linfield with 21-2 win to claim school's first NAIA playoff victory

1995 - WWU finishes regular season undefeated and earns No. 1 national ranking in NAIA Division II

1996 - Vikings reach NAIA Division II National Championship game

1999 - Western earns first NCAA Division II Playoff berth and wins Columbia Football Association title

2001 - Vikings win inaugural Great Northwest Athletic Conference crown

2008 - Western wins Dixie Rotary Bowl and wraps up first winning record since 2004

2009 - WWU announces that it is ending its football program in a press release on Thursday Jan. 8.
