Victor Wembanyama Sends Clear Message After Spurs Claw Back Into NBA Finals

Victor Wembanyama is not treating the San Antonio Spurs' Game 3 win like a celebration. After dropping the first two games of the NBA Finals to the New York Knicks, the Spurs finally responded with a 115-111 victory to cut the series deficit to 2-1. It was the kind of win they badly needed, especially after falling into a hole that no team has ever climbed out of in Finals history.

But Wembanyama made it clear afterward that San Antonio cannot relax now. His message was simple: the Spurs have only started the fightback, and the toughest part of the series is still ahead.

Following the game Wembanyama said, "The job is absolutely not done... the hardest is still to come."

Game 3 showed exactly why Wembanyama is already carrying himself like more than just a young superstar.

The pressure around San Antonio was massive heading into New York, especially with Madison Square Garden waiting to turn every Knicks run into a moment. The Spurs had already let two winnable games slip away, so this was not just about talent anymore. It was about maturity, patience, and whether they could handle the Finals environment without falling apart.

That is what made Wembanyama's response after the game stand out. He was not interested in acting like one win had changed everything. His tone was calm, almost businesslike, as if he understood that San Antonio had only bought itself more time.

The Spurs finally got rewarded for their effort, but they are still chasing the series. One strong night does not erase the problems they had in the first two games, especially against a Knicks team that has shown it can close games and punish mistakes.

For Wembanyama, the challenge now is consistency. He has to keep setting the tone, but San Antonio also needs everyone around him to stay sharp. Game 3 gave the Spurs life. What they do with it next will decide whether this becomes a real series again.
