Rik Dalvit’s cartoon depiction of Mayor Kelli Linville in Sunday’s edition of The Herald was a more than a bit “ungenerous.” He appears to me to want to convey the message through both copy and illustration that our mayor isn’t hard at work, and will not be hard at work in the future as she serves our city; instead, that she will prefer to “rest on her laurels.” I take issue with that depiction.
Not only is it unfair, it is also flat out wrong. Our mayor has worked as hard if not harder than the best of her predecessors in this position. She is a strong, intelligent, dedicated proponent of our beautiful city, and as such, deserves more respect than this cartoon portrays.
