I applaud the Ski to Sea race committee for their decision to protect skiers and the integrity of the sport by modifying the events this year in recognition of the low snow levels on Mount Baker.
I understand the need to fund drought relief for farmers affected by the low snow pack on both sides of the Cascades.
But I question the wisdom of letting Shell Oil use our port to keep even one ship (the Arctic Challenger) as part of its flotilla to explore for oil under the Chukchi Sea north of Alaska.
Global climate chaos has many unexpected consequences, so why drill for more oil when we already know we need to burn less of it to start saving our beautiful climate?
