Says carbon tax will harm jobs

We have many good paying jobs in Whatcom County that support families. I believe many of these jobs are in jeopardy with Gov. Inslee’s proposed carbon tax, which will affect employers such as Cherry Point Refinery and Puget Energy, including generating stations in Bellingham, Ferndale, Blaine and Sumas.

The loss of these jobs would impact our entire community as the workers in these jobs provide an influx of money into the local economy whether it be stores, restaurants, entertainment, etc. If these jobs are lost, the families of those workers would suffer. When the local economy has less money flowing through it, other people lose their jobs and even more families suffer, I believe proving once more that “taxing big business” under the the guise of helping the middle class doesn’t work.

Has anyone thought about going after “big government” instead? That’s where the really big piles of money are. And, I believe it all used to belong to us — that is until big government came up with another tax to take it away.

Something that Margaret Thatcher once said comes to mind: “The problem with most socialist agendas is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.” I urge you to contact Gov. Inslee’s office and your representatives (http://app.leg.wa.gov/districtfinder/) and tell them that you oppose the carbon tax because would prefer to keep your job, and your money.
