Opposes bond funding for Bender Fields

Here we go again, another Lynden bond shoved down the taxpayer’s throats this time for Bender Field. Why can’t these city leaders do what most of us do and that is budgeting or saving for a rainy day rather than, “Oh we need it” so here’s another bond for you to pay for? I believe it’s time for the responsible parties to make some changes, budget and set aside funds for future projects. Show us the taxpayer that they can save to cover a portion of these costs rather than make statements like “I don’t think it’s an extravagant thing we’re talking about here. We’re talking about a place to park your car and a place to use the facilities,” said Lynden Chamber Commerce executive director Gary Vis said. “The improvements will far outlast the bond.” Yes, I think it is an extravagant thing — it is a million-dollar bond. As I live near the park, I have never seen the parking full, even during tournaments. Again maybe someone should have been planning to replace the restrooms years ago, maybe saving and planning a budget? It’s time for a change.
