Links film violence to school shooting

The sadness about the deaths and injuries at Marysville-Pilchuck High School contribute to my sadness over other shootings by young people. Two or three decades ago, we began entertaining our kids with more violence shown explicitly on TV shows, in movies appropriate for the immature, and video games. The new movie, called “John Wick,” apparently has hero Keanu Reeves gunning down over 40 people. Soren Andersen, a movie reviewer for the Seattle Times (Friday, Oct. 24) finishes his review of “John Wick“ with these final words: “Wck’s black on black suits are the nattiest. His gun skills are first-rate. His dedication to his mission is total. Avenge the puppy. Bang.” Does that sound like the shootings at Marysville-Pilchuck High School? I believe it does. And for several years, I believe we’ve been teaching our kids that this lifestyle is entertaining.
