Offers comment on firearms protections

The Bellingham Herald reports that five children a day are killed by gunshot wounds (Oct. 22). Perhaps these tragedies can be seen as just a regrettable side effect of the vital need to protect our Second Amendment rights. However, in an opposing view, I believe the National Rifle Association likely would assert that if these children had each carried their own gun for personal protection, these sad events would not have occurred.
