Supports continuation of Adult Day Health

Experience causes us to understand value. We learned the value of the Adult Day Health program (due to close Jan. 1) in Bellingham when my father-in-law was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease four years before he passed away. My mother-in-law did her best to care for him in their home. This labor of love and necessity dictated every moment of her day until the Adult Day Health Program gave her much-needed time alone for household tasks and replenishing her spirit. At the same time it provided my father-in-law with a safe outing he truly enjoyed. His positive feelings for the program even eased his transition to a nursing home when the time came. There seems to be so little we can offer patients and caregivers dealing with these types of mental disorders. The support from Adult Day Health is priceless to them! There has to be a way to keep the program going in Bellingham and at least give them this!
