Letter: Mental health

On the front page of the Tri-City Herald on May 15 it stated that “Gov. Inslee signs mental law.” I am concerned that Governor Inslee has signed into law, and believes the system will not involuntarily commit (not believed to be suicidal or a danger to others) and believes that Senate Bill 5269 (Joel’s Law) has been directional step in the mental health program he offers to Washington state residents and/or taxpayers.

Another step for the mental health system to assume (without a major step in changing a law) which may the two system “handcuffed.”

Bless their hearts, Doug/Nancy Reuters (from Dallas, Texas), the loss of their son (Joel) killed by a Seattle police officer have done very little to modify the procedures used today by law enforcement officials and mental health professionals.
