Love Inc. was established in 1989 and had about 75 volunteers in 2014.
Purpose: To network local churches, volunteers and community agencies to help people in need. Clearinghouse screens requests and then facilitates connections between those needing help and those who can provide. Referrals may also be made. We have a financial coaching program which is free of charge and provides personal one-on-one coaching. We also have a furniture program where gently used furniture is given free of charge to those who don’t have the means to purchase any.
Volunteer highlights: Our furniture program is very busy. Many folk are unable to pick up their furniture. We have a group of about 10 men (most of them retired) who have volunteered to pick up and deliver furniture once a week. They work very hard and sometimes it’s not easy. Many times they have had to haul heavy items up flights of stairs but they don’t complain. They have stated how rewarding it is to enter an empty residence, fill it up with furniture and leave knowing that they have helped to turn it into a “home.”
Signature fundraiser: Annual Dessert and Auction Fundraiser, Oct. 23 at Bellingham Covenant Church.
Wish list: Funds to purchase a newer delivery truck, our current one is failing us. This is crucial for us to continue the furniture program. Last year 305 families received 1,242 pieces of furniture. Also, donations of “gently used” furniture.
