Alex Rodriguez deserves to be booed when he takes to the field for the New York Yankees.
After all, baseball’s highest paid player is appealing his precedent-setting 211 game ban for using performance enhancing drugs.
It appears that Rodriguez, like Lance Armstrong before him, is another false athletic hero. They are gifted athletes to begin with, but fortified with substances banned by their respective sports that give them an unfair advantage. In short, they cheat.
Worse, when their hollow stature as superhuman becomes exposed, they become pathological liars on steroids, set on defending, justifying and blaming others for their own actions.

Sports fans deserve better. We love champion athletes. We marvel at their abilities and their record setting performances.
But fans should have little tolerance for athletes who cheat their way to the top.
