Boston horror and heroism

It was one of those records you want to last — almost 12 years without a mass terror attack on American soil. But that winning streak against terrorism came to an explosive end Monday near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

The death and suffering inflicted on innocent bystanders is enough to batter one’s faith in humankind. But the images of the first responders, race volunteers and total strangers rushing to the aid of the bloodied and maimed victims helps to restore some of that faith.

Acts of terrorism across this land and across the globe are horrific reminders of the evil that lurks among us. Yes, these are trying times. But the American psyche is too strong to succumb to these unfathomable acts.
